Please address your written comments to: Technical Support Department Micro Solutions, Inc. 132 West Lincoln Highway DeKalb, IL 60115 Release 3.0 Technical Notes This release of Uniform is designed to achieve maximum compatibility by controlling all disk operations through the BIOS Interrupt 13h functions. These are software services provided by the BIOS ROM in IBM and compatible computers. Interrupt 13h support is extended with Micro Solutions CompatiCard and Backpack device drivers. Use of Interrupt 13h allows Uniform greater independence from differences in system hardware and permits support of all Micro Solutions disk controllers, including CompatiCard IV and Backpack. Uniform's reliance on Interrupt 13 has some consequences that distinguish it from earlier versions: Single-density disk diskette formats are not supported unless a Micro Solutions CompatiCard I, Compaticard IV or Backpack Drive is installed. In each case the device driver software must also be properly installed since it is the device driver that provides Interrupt 13h functions. If a format is not supported by the installed hardware and device driver (where required) that format will not appear on the Uniform-PC menus. Certain CP/M formats used non-standard byte values to indicate the side of the disk in format addresses. The BIOS Interrupt 13h routines of IBM and compatible machines cannot read these non- standard side bytes. Therefore a Micro Solutions CompatiCard I, II, IV or Backpack Drive is required to access such diskettes. CP/M formats with non-standard side bytes include the following: Name Sides TPI Density or Size A.B.
